"I'm quite interested in those medieval style woodcuts and symbology as well, I find the art from that period very rich in character, from Hieronymus Bosch's triptychs to all the tarot card, astrology and alchemy stuff. It seems so steeped in visual language that these pictures can be read like words, an art that is probably lost on great majority of us now, due to greater literacy and being able to read is now much more common place.
What I would say about this illustration, is that you have obviously looked into the subject, and understood the symbology, which is great, and is the hallmark of a good artist, but this is more an emulation of what you've seen, than say, your own interpretation.[...]"

"The first thing i notice about your art is the main focus seems to be the sun, however my eye keeps going towards the moon. It seems pasted on because the lighting and shading is very dramatic. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but an easy fix would be to soften the lighting and shading. Also, you could soften the edges because it seems very sharp compared to everything else.
Also, there seems to be a lack of lighting in the river. The sun is in the middle, therefor there to be a line of line running through the middle of the lake. (like this: fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/201…) Since that's where the lighting comes from, the mermaids, people and objects in the lake should have light reflecting where they are closest to the light (I don't know how to explain this properly aha). Sometimes putting a bit of reflected light on an object can make it seem to fit in the picture better.[...]"

"The rivers look fine. There's one point in the top continent where you didn't fill in a lake, and a few places where they go 'past' the mountains. I often erase a little bit of the rivers to blend them into the mountain stamps, or use the smudge tool to fade them at that point. There's also one point where four rivers flow into the same massive lake; I'm inclined to doubt the ones coming from the south would flow that way, and the the outflow would still go south. It's best to chart out the height of the land before placing rivers. But overall they look fine.
Select the landmass. Make a new layer. Expand by 10-20 pixels. Stroke, 3 pixels. Expand. Stroke, 2 pixels. Expand, stroke 1 pixel. Poof. Fancier water. Make a 30 pixel stroke inside of the landmass and set it to 'dissolve', or blur it and set it on hard light to make more interest on the land border. [...]"

Magic Week - Reverse Caption
The power flowed into him, filling his lungs, spreading out in his blood like oxygen, and settling into the marrow of his bones. He felt himself smile in a way that he hadn't since he was a boy learning to cast his first spell. He had devoted decades to the study of magic, but now, now he was magic. A glow lit the trees around him. He couldn't be sure if it was the setting sun, or if the glow came from his own skin. A beetle crawled on the ground nearby, seemingly unconcerned with what it had just witnessed, but yet its movements were in time with his heartbeat. A bird in the sky flapped its wings to the same rhythm. A breeze plucked at his hair and clothes. He began to dance, slowly at first; he followed the wind, and the wind followed him. He moved faster, twirling and leaping, until even the fallen leaves were dancing around him. When he stopped, all was still. He smiled again, and raised his arms to the sky. The first stars were visible. He watched them for a long
