~ An interview of a talented artist in our General Photography Community

Tell us a bit about yourself, Bojkovski! How did you get into photography and why?

Hi there. My name is Ognen. The story of why and how I started to photograph started around 6-7 years ago. My father had one old Zenit. When I was a little kid I didn't want to take photographs or to be photographed.. and then suddenly one day, around 6-7 years ago I woke up in the morning with the idea that I should start to photograph. So I first started with one point and shoot Sony T3 (it was good for macro photos), after a year there was my first DSLR Nikon D80.. and then when D800 was released last year I had to have it :) (Smile)

Why are you on deviantART?

To learn from others, to share my art and to give and receive feedback.

What type of photography do you most like to do and why?

I like landscape photography the most and also travel photography. I like nature and I like going to places and weather conditions when nobody goes. Also I like to travel, to visit other countries and to photograph their culture, streets, architecture...

What has been the longest distance you've travelled to get a decent photograph?

Well I went to Egypt.. I guess that was the longest distance I've traveled and the best place I've ever been. I hope I will go there again with the new equipment and better experience to make much better photos.

How do you find the places you capture? Do you do a lot of research before setting off?

Well I’m finding the places by visiting them, I don’t do a lot of research.

What kind of place would you like to go to most of all?

My lifetime wish is to go to Africa and to photograph there, some countries like Kenya, Zimbabwe, Namibia.. Serengeti national park.. and similar.

How long do you spend shooting when you're on a particular trip or photoshoot?

Depends of the things that I’m photographing and from the surroundings.. It may be hours or a couple of minutes.

Do you do a lot of post-processing?

I like to do post-processing. That’s why I like digital photography and photoshop. Only in that way can I show how I see the world.

Do you use a specific technique when shooting? What setting on your camera do you most like to use?

Well I use manual mode all the time. My technique is to get photographs which don’t have burned parts, or if there are, there should be very little so I can get back the details in Camera raw and edit them in Photoshop like I wanted. And, depending on the situation, I sometimes use active d-light.

What is your favourite piece and why?

I can’t say that I have only one favorite photograph. There are many :) (Smile).. and many to come :D (Big Grin)

What is your equipment list? What made you choose your equipment there?

Well I have Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8, Nikon 50mm f1.4 and Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro and SB-900. Also I have Manfrotto tripod with ball-head. Before that I had some other lenses for my Nikon D80.

I use Nikon because they are very durable and I think that they have the most logic software and button placement and they have a great grip in hand. The quality of the photo is similar almost to all cameras, but Nikon has a little better dynamic range. So I won’t change Nikon for nothing in the world :D (Big Grin) Horns

How do you feel about the Daily Deviations you've received?

Well I think that there are greater photographs out there.. I don’t know why they chose mine. :) (Smile)

Are you doing any projects at the moment, photography wise or not? Offline and online?

Well I’m editing some photos from the last two trips of mine in Milan and Como Italy and on Bistra Mountain, Macedonia (my favorite place).

What advice would you give to aspiring photographers?

Advice for landscape photographers :) (Smile).. They should go and photograph outside no matter what the weather conditions or time are.. only then they will have different photographs from the others.

Thank you Bojkovski!
